How I learned relaxation from our house cat Babe.
I heard a story that after Buddha died one of his monks went to live in a cave. A few years passed before some old friends searched for his cave to discover what he had learned. The old monk, coming from his cave, all aglow, said of all he had learned it was relaxation that brought him enlightenment.
Now, I thought that was a fun story but didn’t take it seriously until one day Babe jumped onto my chest face-to-face and went into his meditative state.
I was musing at his ability to be so relaxed. Then I got a B.F.O. (Blinding Flash of the Obvious), I couldn’t take the monk story seriously because of a limiting belief that if I relaxed I might get lazy or loose my alertness to greater awareness.
The cat broke that belief as I watched him move from a totally relaxed state, to instant high alert upon hearing a bird land outside the window.
